Jasmeen’s Story

A photo of a woman sitting in front of a shop, smiling at the camera. She is wearing glasses that she acquired in a Peek-powered eye health programme in India.

Jasmeen, 35, is a shopkeeper from Allahganj, India. She was screened and treated in 2024 in a Peek-powered community eye health programme run by Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital.

Jasmeen participated in a Peek-powered community eye health programme run by Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital.  She was screened, diagnosed with presbyopia (near vision loss) and prescribed corrective glasses.

“I was finding it hard to see and I was getting headaches when I was sewing. I was having problems reading. Luckily I know the prices of many of the shop items. But I was worried the problem would get worse and worse and make it harder for me to run the shop. I reduced the time I spent sewing and doing other tasks as it was getting difficult.

The person who came to my house to test my eyesight was very nice. When I first tried the glasses I was grinning and grinning. It was better immediately.

I travelled to get my glasses within one week of the simulation. Now I can see clearly again. It has helped me with stitching, cleaning the house, and reading things in the shop – I can read small print now.

In every house in my village I think there are one or two people with problems like mine. The other people in the community must go and get help, it’s very good.”

When I first tried the glasses I was grinning and grinning. It was better immediately.”
