Peek Vision’s Keitumetse Thamane selected for international award

Peek Vision’s Keitumetse Thamane has been nominated a 2025 Young Systems Leader by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the global eye health sector’s leading alliance.

The prestigious award celebrates early-career eye health professionals who demonstrate an aptitude and motivation to drive a systems mindset through their work.  Keitumetse is one of nine recipients of the 2025 award.

Keitumetse started her eye health career at Botswana’s Ministry of Health in 2015, coordinating between the National Eye Health Programme, Botswana-UPenn Partnership, and Peek Vision, then a new technology seeking to pilot in Botswana. She played a key role in launching a pilot of Peek that screened 13,000 children in three weeks, which ultimately led to large-scale adoption as part of Botswana’s national school eye health programme.

Since joining Peek in 2019, she has shaped our product development and approach as part of the programme management team.  Today, she works as a Programme Management Lead, coordinating Peek-powered programmes across multiple countries.

As part of the award, Keitumetse will participate in an award programme that includes speaking at the IAPB’s forthcoming 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE event in Nepal, the global eye health sector’s premier event.

Another one of the award recipients, Mehran Memon from the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (SIOVS), led his organisation’s highly successful adoption of Peek and was among the first Peek partners in Pakistan to be Certified to deliver software user training in 2024.

“We are delighted that Keitumetse, Mehran and all of the other award winners have been recognised by IAPB,” says Farhana Rehman-Furs, Peek’s Head of Global Partnerships.  “The Awards recognise individuals who are making a decisive contribution to eye health systems change, which is ultimately what Peek and our partners are all about.”
