A new Peek-powered school eye health programme, in partnership with CBM Zambia and Macha Mission Hospital, with the support of the Ministries of Health and Education, was launched in Zambia’s Southern Province to address untreated eye conditions among school-going children. The programme will screen 20,000 children for eye health conditions in the first phase, with those in need of further treatment or examination being referred to appropriate health facilities.

The programme will connect children to eye care services, and support them to achieve and maintain good vision. This will be accomplished through collaboration between teachers and healthcare personnel at the community level to ensure that children are screened, referred and reciving the treatment they need.

With the launch of a Peek-powered programme in Zambia, Christian Blind Mission (CBM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and implementing partners, has set off a flagship to digitalise Eye Health data collection systems and use technology to bring Eye Health services as close to the community as possible.”

CBM and Peek are working together to bring better vision to people in regions where eye health care is difficult to access.

As of 31st Jan 2023, 5,895 screenings have taken place, which is more than 25% of the target for Iteration 1. The launch of this programme is a testament to the continued efforts by Peek & CBM in ensuring that school-going children have access to eye health care as correcting a child’s vision improves education outcomes and  their overall confidence.”
