Peek announced as a finalist in the 2021 Tech4Good Awards

"It’s an exciting time for Peek as we continue to launch new school and community eye health programmes, bringing better vision to thousands of people who lack basic eye care services.”

Peek Vision has been selected as a finalist at the 2021 Tech4Good Awards, organised by AbilityNet and BT. The awards celebrate the businesses, people and initiatives that are paving the way for a more inclusive, accessible and better world through the power of digital technology.

Having won the Digital Health Award category back in 2014, this year Peek is a finalist in the Africa Award category, sponsored by Comic Relief. The Africa Award selects inspiring projects that are using tech to tackle poverty and social injustice to change lives in sub-Saharan Africa.

Peek is recognised for its evidence-based smartphone technology and public health tools that help partners deliver more efficient, more effective and more equitable school and community eye health programmes.

In Africa, Peek is working with partners including CBM Christian Blind Mission and Vision for a Nation, to break down barriers to eye care in multiple countries. In Botswana, the Government, represented by the Ministry of Health & Wellness and supported by the Ministry of Basic Education, is partnering with Peek to roll out a national school eye health programme to help ensure every school-going child with eye problems in the country is identified and treated.

Farhana Rehman-Furs, Peek’s Head of Programme Partnerships, said: “We’re delighted to be selected as a finalist at the awards and we’re in good company alongside many impressive organisations who are harnessing the power of technology to change lives.

“Peek is working with some incredible partners in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, and it’s fantastic to see the impact our technology and tools are having. It’s an exciting time for us as we continue to launch new school and community eye health programmes, bringing better vision to thousands of people who lack basic eye care services.”

Robin Christopherson, Head of Digital Inclusion at AbilityNet and Chair of the Awards Judging Panel said, “If there’s anything that the last year has taught us, it is that technology is a powerful tool that keeps everyone connected and supports those in need.

“This year’s finalists help to fill the gaps where accessibility and inclusion fall through with the current technology landscape, providing life changing resources and tools for those in need. I’m really looking forward to seeing these finalists progress and what they achieve following the Tech4Good Awards.”

The 2021 winners of each category are announced at an online ceremony on 14 July.
