Botswana set to become first country in the world to provide eye health services to a generation

The Government of Botswana celebrated its progress in bringing vision to an entire generation of schoolchildren at a special event hosted by the British High Commission in Gaborone on Thursday 19 October.

253 million people worldwide are visually impaired or blind. 80% could be helped with simple solutions like the provision of glasses or cataract surgery. But to find and treat many with sight loss, new technologies are needed.

Vision for the Commonwealth: New campaign launched to bring vision to everyone, everywhere

Over the next six months, Peek, The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, Sightsavers, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Clearly and the International Coalition for Trachoma Control will work to raise awareness of this issue and unite Governments, advocates, service providers and supporters to bring vision to everyone, everywhere.
